Stylophone STYLOSETTE

THE PORTABLE STYLOPHONE TOUCH KEYBOARD WITH ENDLESS CONNECTIVE POSSIBILITIES

The Stylophone sound in cassette size is a pocket-sized synthesizer that packs a mighty punch. The Stylosette brings the classic Stylophone tone into a versatile and portable form. It’s perfect for those late-night creative sessions when inspiration strikes but you don’t want to lug around a full keyboard.

Add space, depth, and wobble to your sound with built-in delay, vibrato, and a small but powerful speaker. Despite its compact size, the Stylosette can fill a room with rich sound, making it perfect for home, studio, or on-the-go performances.

Buzz, twist, and warp every note in the palm of your hand—anywhere! The touch-sensitive keypad responds to the lightest touch, letting you glide, tap, or experiment with playing techniques. And with its battery-powered design, you can take it anywhere—the park, the studio, or even on the road.

Get Started

  1. Insert x2 AAA batteries into the compartment on the bottom of the unit.
  2. Turn it on using the power switch.
  3. Touch the keypad with your finger to play notes.
  4. Explore the sounds and effects—make some noise!

Stylosette Controls & Features

Core Controls

  • Power – Turns the unit on or off. Always switch off when not in use to conserve battery life.
  • Volume – Adjusts speaker output for quiet practice or full-room sound.
  • Keyboard – A touch-sensitive surface linked to a voltage-controlled oscillator. Glide for smooth transitions, or tap for crisp, articulated notes.
  • Octave & Tuning – Shift notes up or down by an octave or fine-tune for instrument matching.
  • Phones (3.5mm Output) – Connects to headphones, amplifiers, or recording devices for expanded audio possibilities.

Sound Shaping

  • Delay – Engages a built-in echo effect with adjustable time and repeats.
  • Vibrato – Adds pitch modulation for a rich, dynamic tone
  • Depth: Controls the intensity of pitch wobble.
  • Speed: Adjusts how fast the vibrato oscillates.
  • Repeats & Time – Controls the number and duration of delay echoes, from subtle slapbacks to ambient textures.

Wild Keyboard: Turn Objects into Instruments

The Stylosette’s expansion ports let you turn everyday objects into playable keys. You can create unique sound setups using conductive materials to interact with your environment.

How It Works

  1. Attach conductive objects to the expansion ports using the included crocodile clips.
  2. Hold P14 (Keypad Common) with one hand to complete the circuit.
  3. Touch connected objects to play notes.
  4. Experiment with metals, fruits, water, and even pencil-drawn touchpads.

Why Conductivity?

  • Conductive materials like metal, fruit, or plants allow electricity to flow, triggering notes.
  • The human body is conductive, making your touch a key part of the circuit.
  • Different materials affect tone and response, adding unique textures to your sound.

Building Custom Setups

Pentatonic Scale Setup

For a harmonious playing experience, connect five objects to P01, P03, P05, P08, and P10 (C, D, E, G, A). This scale removes tension-creating intervals, ensuring all notes sound good together—perfect for improvisation.

P14 – The Key to Connectivity

P14 (Keypad Common) completes the electrical loop, allowing signals to travel between connected objects and the Stylosette. Without this connection, the circuit remains incomplete, and no sound will play.

Exploration & Experimentation

  • Try objects with different conductivity levels to hear subtle sound variations.
  • Combine octave and vibrato keypads for layered effects.
  • Use conductive ink or graphite drawings to create custom touch surfaces.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I power on the Stylosette?

Insert two AAA batteries, then switch it on.

Why isn’t my Stylosette playing?

Ensure batteries are installed correctly, power is on, and volume is up. If using expansion ports, you must touch P14 (Keypad Common) to complete the circuit.

Why doesn’t the Stylosette make sound with my finger on the keyboard?

Fingers may not always be moist enough to conduct electricity. Moisturize your finger (for instance, lick it) but not too much as this may cause the note to “stick” or otherwise behave incorrectly.

Can I connect the Stylosette to other equipment?

Yes, use the 3.5mm stereo output for headphones, amplifiers, or recording interfaces. The expansion ports allow for integration with external synthesizers and controllers.

What objects work best for the Wild Keyboard?

Metal objects like coins and keys work best, but fruits, plants, and water can also conduct electricity.

How do I adjust effects like vibrato and delay?

Use the included mini screwdriver to adjust the Depth, Speed, Time, and Repeats controls.

The Stylosette is a playground for sound. It offers an interactive, experimental approach to music-making. You can play traditionally, connect it to your existing setup or create something completely new. This is more than a synthesizer and the possibilities are endless.
